Diaper wash and care recommendations*
This is what I found works best for storing and washing my all in one, pocket diapers, or any cloth diaper.
I use a 5 gallon sterilite storage container as my diaper pail, it a good size for doing wash every 2-3 days, but you can use any diaper pail you like. Do not pre soak your diapers unless you are using prefold, but even then you don't really need to. Pre soaking can cause a horrible stench.
Remove the diaper from baby. If it's poopy rinse it and stain treat then toss it in the bin. If the diaper is only wet, put it directly in the bin, no soaking or stain treating is needed.
Washing and drying steps:
- Wash diapers every 2 to 3 days.
- Put diapers directly into the washer for the diaper pail.
- Run a pre wash cycle with a small amount of detergent.
- Run a normal wash cycle with half the amount of detergent you would normally use.
- Run a rinse cycle.
VERY IMPORTANT - DO NOT EVER USE FABRIC SOFTNER WITH YOUR DIAPERS, IT WILL MAKE THEM FAIL.
- Then dry as normal.
- While the diapers are washing, spray and wipe clean the diaper pail with a disinfecting cleaner.
To brightening your diapers, air drying your diapers outside is recommend. The sun is nature's natural bleach. If the sun did not work or the weather is not cooperating bleach can be used once a month or so, but I do not recommend it. Bleach ages your diapers materials and can cause them to wear out faster.
* These instructions are only recommendations. I have tried Kushies and Bum Genius wash instructions, both of which are different, and this is what I found worked best for me.
